Education : Graduate in Social Work or a related field, such as psychology or sociology + three years of experience Or Master in Social Work or a related field such as psychology or sociology (Preferable)

Experience : Previous experience in handling research projects and fieldwork. 2 Three (03) years of work experience in health-related research projects. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other internet programs. Well-versed in local languages (Punjabi & Hindi) and English (oral and written).

Salary : Rs. 30,000//- Per Month

Roles and Responsibilities of Staff : Medical Social Worker

1. To assess the patient’s and caregivers needs in terms of their social, financial and emotional concerns and their coping strategies. 

2. To maintain and update a list of resource organizations to support patients and caregivers. 

3. Work as a team member in the multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, nursing and palliative care staff. 

4. To coordinate and support the patients, family, and other team members. 

5. To assist patients and families in understanding of the medical problem, in an appropriate language. 6. Preparing the patient and the families regarding their disease and disease progression and communicating the care and action plan appropriately to the patient and caregiver. 

7. To facilitate family meetings to support patients/persons with illness and his family with interpersonal issues as a result of illness. 

8. To conduct group sessions where feasible to encourage peer-to-peer sharing of experiences. 

9. To conduct home visits where necessary to support patients with illness to adjust to his/her home environment, including encouraging independence in patients. 

10. To support the patient in a smooth transition from the hospital to the community and maintain the link with the patient, the community, and the health services. 

11. To be able to support families with bereavement counseling as and when needed
